AIM:
Water Absorption Test on Bricks is conducted to determine the percentage water absorption of bricks.
APPARATUS:
1. Weighing Balance (Accuracy up to 1 gram )
2. Oven to maintain 110 degrees temperature
3. Water Bath
4. Cloth & Hand Gloves
5. Test Specimens ( Five Numbers of Bricks )
PROCEDURE:
1. Place all the 5 brick specimens in oven at a temperature of 110 degrees for 48 hours to get constant mass.
2. After 48 hours (2 days) carefully remove the brick specimens from the oven wearing hand gloves.
3. Then, let the bricks cool down under a ceiling fan for about 20 minutes.
4. Now, weigh all the 5 brick specimens and note down all their Oven Dried Weights as 'W1'.
5. Then, place all the brick specimens in a water bath for 24 hours at 27 degrees temperature.
6. After 24 hours, take out the bricks from water bath and wipe any surface moisture of bricks with a cloth.
7. Now, weigh all the 5 brick specimens and note down all their Water Absorbed Weights as 'W2'.
8. Finally, the Percentage of Water Absorbed by the Brick can be calculated by using the below formula:
